Artificial Intelligence has helped decode a 540-year-old love letter, uncovering an emotional story that still feels relatable today.

The letter was written in 1477 by Margery Brews to her fiancé John Paston III. It was recently analysed by experts using a tool developed by MyHeritage.

Written in an informal and unstructured style, the letter was difficult to understand due to spelling differences and old language. But with the help of AI, experts were able to interpret its true meaning.

In the letter, Margery expressed deep love for John but also shared her struggle. Her family was unable to provide a larger dowry, as her mother failed to convince her father. This put her in a difficult position — choosing between love and financial expectations.

Despite the situation, she reassured John of her loyalty and asked him to keep the letter private. Her words showed both emotional pain and strong commitment.

Historical records suggest that the couple eventually got married and had a son in 1479. Margery passed away in 1495, while John died in 1503.

This discovery shows how modern technology can bring old human stories back to life, reminding us that love, sacrifice, and difficult choices have always been part of human history.
