National Disaster Management Authority has warned that a strong heatwave will affect many parts of Pakistan, including Karachi, until May 5.
The alert was issued through the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), asking authorities to activate emergency plans and people to take safety steps to avoid health risks.
According to officials, Sindh, southern Punjab, and parts of Balochistan will face very high temperatures. Cities like Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Bahawalpur, Multan, and Turbat are expected to remain extremely hot.
Central Punjab and some areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also see rising temperatures.
At the same time, the weather department has predicted rain, dust storms, and strong winds in several areas between April 24 and 29. Cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, and Murree may receive rain during this period.
Northern areas such as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir are also likely to experience rain and thunderstorms.
The NDMA warned that the heatwave could cause serious health problems like dehydration and heatstroke. People are advised to avoid going out in direct sunlight, drink more water, and take necessary precautions.
Authorities have been told to set up cooling centres and keep hospitals ready for emergencies. Local administrations have also been asked to stay alert.
Meanwhile, Shehbaz Sharif has ordered an inquiry into a non-working early warning system in Gilgit-Baltistan, which was meant to protect people from glacial floods.
While reviewing preparations for the upcoming monsoon season, the prime minister expressed concern over delays and directed all departments to speed up work and improve coordination.
He also warned that strict action will be taken against negligence and stressed that protecting people from climate risks is a top priority.
The prime minister further directed authorities to remove illegal constructions near rivers and improve systems to reduce damage during heavy rains.
