YouTube is testing a new search feature that changes how people find content on the platform. Instead of only showing videos, users can now get guided answers that combine text, short clips, and full videos in one place.
This new feature, called “Ask YouTube,” allows users to search in a more natural way. For example, someone can ask how to plan a 3-day road trip from San Francisco to Santa Barbara, and YouTube will provide step-by-step results. These results include useful explanations along with relevant videos and specific clips to make things easier to understand.
Users can also continue the conversation by asking follow-up questions like where to find good coffee, and the platform will respond with more suggestions in the same format.
Right now, this feature is only available to Premium users in the United States who are 18 or older, and they need to join the test version manually. However, Google plans to expand it to more users in the future.
This move is part of Google’s bigger plan to improve search across its platforms. Over time, it has introduced smarter search tools, including features that allow deeper questions, comparison tools, and project-based workflows through its systems like Gemini.
With this new test, YouTube could soon change how people explore content, making it easier to learn, plan, and discover creators — all in one place.
